Hedgehog Project update

Citizen science: monitoring the health of Paddox's hedgehog population.

As a follow-up to last week's visit of the Warwickshire Wildlife Trust's Hedgehog Officers, Forest Schoolers in Reception, Year 3 and Year 4 have been playing their part in an ongoing research project.

Our strategically placed footprint tunnel showed signs of nocturnal visitors almost immediately. Footprint identification was confirmed: a hedgehog had definitely visited! Padding across an inky mixture of charcoal dust and vegetable oil in search of the delicious hedgehog food placed as bait in the centre of the tunnel, it certainly made a big impression.

I'd have been content with that: visiting the tunnel each day, opening it up and seeing footprints is wonder enough. But along came the Nightvision Infra-red HD Hedgehog Sensor Cam. Footage captured on its first night of operation has taken that sense of excitement to another level. We'll hope for a better angle and focus in future, but for now, feast your eyes on this:
