We are pleased to welcome back Mrs Semmence, who has returned from her maternity leave.  For this term she is working three days a week with children from Years 5 and 6.  We have split Year 5 between three teachers for three days each week for literacy and numeracy to provide more opportunities to work in small groups.  There are a lot of interventions going into this year group to support their learning.

We have started to introduce Year 5 and Year 6 to the ‘learning portal’.  This is Warwickshire’s chosen learning platform.  We are in the very early stages if using it.  Eventually all children and their parents will be able to log onto it.  At the moment children can use it to send messages and some spelling lists have been put on there.  Children should NOT be using this for extended periods and parents do need to monitor what children are doing.  We will keep you informed as the platform develops.  We are also writing a code of conduct for both parents and children, when using it.

African Drumming – Years 1 and 4 have been taking part in an African Drumming workshop today.

Haiti Earthquake – Pupils in Year 6 have asked to organise a cake sale this Friday, to raise money for the Haiti Earthquake appeal.  Cakes will be sold at break for 20p each.

Acorn Site drinks – Our cook is away on long term sick leave and is going to retire at Easter.  This is putting a huge strain on kitchen staff as cover provided by County Caterers has been variable.  For a while now I have been concerned, that at the times I have been on the Acorn site at break time, the children are spending all their morning break queuing for drinks, rather than being outside at play.  This is unacceptable, as children need fresh air and exercise.  For these reasons, I have decided that we are going to stop the kitchen selling drinks at break, as from Monday 1st February.  Please make sure that your child has a suitable drink in their lunch box for dinner time and please send in a water bottle every day with your child, that they can use in the classroom when they need a drink.  Acorn site children will continue to have their free fruit every day.
