Inset Day – Just a reminder that school will be closed on Thursday 1st May for voting. The day is being used as one of the school’s training days and staff will be receiving training on teaching and learning and using digi-blue cameras.
New Governors – One of our Parent governors has come to the end of her term of office as a parent governor which means that we may need to hold an election if another parent is interested in joining the Governing Body. If you are interested in this role please let Mrs Hall (Oak site office) know by Friday 2nd May.
We also have a vacancy for a Community governor. This should be someone who can take an interest in school life but the governors are not looking to appoint a parent to this position, as we need to maintain a balance on the governing body. If you know someone who might be interested, again please let Mrs Hall or myself know, so that I can have a chat with them to explain what is involved.
SAT’s – Year 6 children will be taking their SAT’s during the week beginning 12th May. Children in Years 3, 4, and 5 will also be doing their English optional SAT’s that week.
New Staff – We have now appointed two new part time teaching assistants and three new midday supervisors. Thank you to any parents who applied for these positions. We had a large number of applications for theTeaching Assistants position from experienced people.
Building Work – Building work will start before half term to put in new toilets in the top floor. This means that class 6B will be moving out of their classroom for one week.
SPORT
Swimming Gala – Congratulations to the Year 3 girls relay team who won their relay race at the gala. Their trophy now stands proudly beside the Year 4 one.
Tennis – Congratulations also to the Year 3/4 Mini Red tennis team who won their tournament last week.
Climbing on the Gates – Can I please ask parents NOT to let children climb on the gates at the end of the Oak site drive. It is just an accident waiting to happen! Also, please do not let very young children ride on bikes and scooters around the staff car park, while waiting for the Oak site children to come out.

3rd June 2008
Library – This week we are having the Oak site library completely refurbished ready for it becoming a whole school library, when we consolidate onto one site.
Instrumental Tuition – Can I remind all parents that you cannot suddenly stop your child's instrumental lessons. In line with County Music Service policy, parents are asked to give one term's notice in writing and to pay in full for the lessons for that term. Please consider carefully before signing the agreement and allowing your child to start lessons, as it is quite a large financial commitment.
Health and Safety Week – Next week we are having a Health and Safety week, when the children will be doing lots of additional activities. It is essential that every child has their PE kit in school every day. We will be having a special theatre company and visiting guests, who will be teaching the children new sports and leisure interests, which all focus on improving health. We would also like to encourage as many children as possible to walk to school or at least part of the way next week. Classes will be keeping records of this. The children will also start the day with exercise, which may be outside. Please can I ask parents to leave when the bell goes, so that children can concentrate. You may be invited to stay and join in on Friday if the children do well, so that they can teach you what they have learnt.
School Trips – The cost of trips has risen considerably this year. We always ask parents to pay the lowest possible voluntary contribution to cover the cost of the trip. Without the voluntary contribution children would not be able to go on trips.
Building Work – The building work has not completed on time and will probably continue for at least another week. There will be after school activities as normal this week because the heavy materials are now on site.
Sustainability Day – Half of Year 5 are going to Coombe Country Park to take part in a sustainability day. We are only allowed to send the equivalent of one class of children to this event, so the names were picked out of a hat.
Live & Dangerous 2008 – Next week Year 6 are going to Live and Dangerous, which is a health and safety event at the Heritage Centre, Gaydon.
Car Parks – Can I remind parents not to walk across the Acorn site car park with children. Please do not allow your young children to play on the Oak site car park, drive or gardens. At the end of after school activities, please walk round the footpath and not across the car park, as staff are often reversing cars at that time of the day, or the builders moving vans.
