PADDOX PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
6 February 2008

Staffing – As you know Mr Lloyd has been off on sick leave for the last twelve months. He has now decided to retire and will not be returning to school. We wish him a happy retirement and a speedy recovery.

Mrs Smith has been a midday supervisor on the Acorn site for many years, but has now decided to take a well earned rest. She will be leaving on Friday and we wish her the best of luck.

Snow Line – We have been lucky with the weather so far, but in case of extreme bad weather and the off chance that school may be closed, please listen to the local radio station, Rugby FM on frequency 107.1. They normally give out details of any schools that are closed, or you can log onto the Warwickshire website for school closures.

FOP’s – The Friends of the School have some “Yellow Moon” catalogues, which your child should be bringing home shortly. If you wish to place an order, you do it directly to the company. The instructions are in the catalogue. We do receive a small commission for any orders placed.
The next FOP’s event will be a quiz night, after the Easter holiday. More details will be out later.

Holiday Dates – School closes on Friday for half term at the normal time and reopens on Monday 18th February.

The Easter holiday is from Thursday 20th March to Wednesday 2nd April inclusive. School reopens after Easter on Thursday 3rd April.

Our final two training days this year are on Thursday 1st May, when we have to close for voting anyway and Friday 18th July. School will be closed to children on these two days.

The last day has now been decided because we will be having building work done on the Oak site during the summer holidays and we need time when the children are not in school to cover up equipment and empty classrooms.

Basketball – If you would like your child to try basketball, why not go along to Ashlawn School on a Wednesday evening from 6pm – 7pm. It costs £2 per session and is for
8-12 year olds.

Safety – Please can I remind parents that young children must not play on the Oak site car park or on the large playground behind the car park. We had a near miss this week with children tampering with a netball post, which was ready for an after school match. You should wait for children on the playground behind the Oak site building.

Cricket – A team from school compete this week in an indoor cricket competition at the Connexion at Ryton.

School Teams – Growing numbers of children on the Oak site attend sports clubs. If your child attends a club e.g. football or netball, it does not mean that your child will automatically play in a school team.
It is simply not possible to select such large numbers of children. Children do however, play matches against their friends as part of the club.

Girls Football – Girls football will re-start on the first Monday back after half-term. The boys have already resumed training on Fridays after school.

Blue Peter Appeal – Blue Peter are appealing for old CD’s and DVD’s but they must be in their plastic cases. If you have any please send them into school.

Threadworms – We have had quite a few cases of children with threadworms especially in Reception. These can be very contagious amongst young children. Please be extra vigilant with your child and make sure that they wash their hands after using the toilet.

Swimming – The school swimming gala is at the end of March and we have to select representatives from all year groups. Therefore on Monday 3rd March Year 3 will not be swimming and we will use this session for the selection. An allowance will be made in the summer term for the money already paid. Children who will be trialling for the swimming gala will be told.

Miss B E Oakes (Headteacher)
