PADDOX PRIMARY SCHOOL NEWSLETTER
18th June 2008
Keeping Healthy & Safe Week – Everyone had a very enjoyable week in school last week looking at different ways to keep healthy and safe. Thank you to all the parents who supported this by walking their children to school. Now that you can do it you might like to consider carrying on with the good work!
Eco Week – Next week we are going to have an Eco week, where we will be looking at a wide variety of environmental issues with all the classes in school. Children will be learning about global warming, reducing the carbon footprint, planting wildlife gardens, wind turbines, composting etc. It looks like being another exciting week.
Year 5 Visit to Gaydon – This week Year 5 are visiting Gaydon Technology Centre to study controls using IT.
Athletics - Congratulations to all the children who did so well in our area heats of the athletics last week. We have a large number of children who will now be representing Paddox Primary at the Rugby Athletics Festival on Saturday 5th July, competing against the winners in the other two heats.
Summer Fair – Just another reminder about our Summer Fair on Saturday 12th July, (organised by a small group of school supporters called FOPS). There will be lots of stalls and games, so please watch out for further letters and posters about the event.
Staff Changes – Mrs Hughes is leaving at the end of term. She is moving back to Northampton. I would like to thank her for her hard work at Paddox and wish her well in her new position. We have appointed a new member of staff to join us in September called Mrs Jones, who will be teaching on the Oak site.
Sponsored Keep Fit – The children have now all completed the sponsored Keep Fit. Well done to Year 6 for organising the whole event. They were superb organisers and demonstrators and I am sure that many of them could get jobs in the leisure industry later in life.
Skirt Length – Can I remind parents that girls’ skirts should be of a decent length for school. Children at Primary School have to sit cross legged on the carpet every day as part of their learning environment. I know the current fashion is for shorter skirts but they should be decent. We have had children coming to school in skirts that are quite simply too short and the children are not comfortable and they spend their entire day tugging on them because they are uncomfortable.
Midday Supervisor – We have another vacancy for a midday supervisor. You would be required to work from 11.55 a.m. until 1.05 p.m. term time only. If anyone is interested please contact Mrs Hall in the office as soon as possible.
Music Lessons – You may have seen in the local press recently, an article about learning to play a musical instrument for free. I would like to point out that these free lessons are class lessons and not individual instrument tuition. Lessons in small groups of four is still chargeable I am afraid.
