Year 5 Visit
This week both Year 5 classes are going to visit St John's Museum at Warwick .
Baby News
Miss Carter is expecting a baby at the end of this term and her maternity leave is due to start after half term. Her class (2C) will be taught by Mrs Duerden for the rest of this school year. Mrs Duerden has worked with different classes in the school before and will give the children the continuity they need.
Lateness/Attendance
Can I remind all parents that school actually starts at 8.55 a.m. and this is the time that children should be entering the school building to start their day. There are far too many children arriving after 9.00 a.m. If this continues we will need to start recording the names of these children. There are very strict requirements now about lateness and attendance which we have to follow. The points system for annual holidays taken during term time is now changing and this may mean that I am not allowed to authorise holidays for certain children. (Please see the attached letter). If pupils are away from school for 10 days without explanation it may result in them being removed from the school roll!
Friends of the School
We are going to hold a meeting of the Friends of the School at 2.00 p.m. in the Acorn Site library, on Wednesday 31 st January. We have had someone who has expressed an interest in leading FOPS. We would like to plan a Summer Fete and we need to start doing this soon. Please come along to the meeting if you can help in any way.

Mobile Phones
These should NOT be brought into school. The school cannot be responsible for the security of mobile phones and they do not have a place in school for the primary aged pupil. If your child has one, please make sure that they do not bring it to school.
Acorn Site Parents
Please can I ask all parents not to wait in the areas where the children wait for their teachers. We are going to cone off this area so that you can clearly see it. It is really hard for the teachers to check that they have all of their children if parents are blocking their view. When staff go out to collect their children, that is not the time to talk to teachers. If you have an urgent problem, please come into school at 8.50 a.m. to speak to the teacher or wait until after school. At 8.55 a.m. teachers need to go into school with their class and start the school day. This system is to keep your children safe and to ensure that all children are in school with the door securely locked. Can I also remind parents to close the doors and gate after them at all times.
Year 6
We seem to have a number of pupils in Year 6 who are having odd days off for minor reasons. This is a very important time for Year 6, when we revise key concepts and the work covered in Key Stage 2 before they move on to Secondary School. Every day off school matters, as they are covering vital work. Please will you make sure that your child attends every day and is not away because of minor ailments or appointments.
Year 6 SAT's take place during the week beginning 14 th May 2007 . I cannot authorise holidays at that time or in the weeks leading up to it.
Please support your child at this time by making sure that they do their homework on time and any revision that they are asked. They will also be provided with revision at half term and during the Easter break.
