We have learnt all about Remembrance Day, through poems, bible readings and prayers. Some children read ‘In Flanders Field’ written by John McCrae and ‘Why wear a Poppy?’ written by Don Crawford. We learnt about the importance of the Poppy, and what it represents. ‘In Flanders Field’ gave us an insight into what the Great War would have been like.

A special mention to Eoin and Alex in 5P, who led us into the two minutes silence by playing ‘The Last Post’ beautifully on the clarinet. I can’t believe they learnt it in 4 days!!

Isaac and Ryan then read out an extract from ‘For the Fallen,’ written by Laurence Binyon,

They shall not grow old, as we who are left grow old.

Age shall not weary them, nor the years condemn.

At the going down of the sun and in the morning,

We shall remember them.

At the end of the two minute silence.

Freya, Megan, Ellie, Haris and Niamh then shared poems that they had written about Remembrance Day, taking inspiration from other poems such as ‘We shall keep the faith’. We had rhyming couplets and acrostic poems highlighting the sacrifices people made during war.

Edward then read out a bible passage (Luke 6 v 27 38) and then we sang ‘Kum Ba Yah’ and ‘I vow to thee my Country’.

Varni and Ruby then shared prayers that they had written, remembering those who sacrificed their lives and thanking the men and women of war.

We shall remember them.
