Over the past week, we have been studying black history with a particular focus on slavery and Barack Obama. 

We have looked into why slavery took place and the journey the slaves would have taken. We then researched people who were important in the abolition movement of slavery. After we focused on Barack Obama and the impact he had in America and equality. We ended the week with writing our own speeches about equality and race. 

Overall it has been a wonderful week and the children have had some really insightful questions which has led to excellent discussion. All of the Year 5 teachers are very proud of their classes.
