Van Gogh

Welcome back to Year One!

Firstly the Year One staff would like to welcome all the children back after half term and we hope that you all had a lovely break.  This half term we welcome Miss Oldroyd, a PGCE student, to Year One. She will be with us until Christmas and we hope that she enjoys her time here at Paddox Primary School.

This week we have started our new topic and are learning all about Vincent Van Gogh-it was great to see all the fantastic research that the children had done over half term! On Monday and Tuesday, we used capital letters, finger spaces and full stops to write facts that we knew about Van Gogh and we have been looking at his famous Sunflowers painting.

Towards the end of the week, we have started reading ‘Katie and the Sunflowers’ and have sequenced the story and written a recount of what we have listened to so far. We are really enjoying the book and looking forward to finding out what happens next!

In Numeracy, we have been learning to count in 2s, 5s and 10s and challenging ourselves to complete sequences that go forwards and backwards. Some children have even managed to count in 10s to over 100!

In Science, despite the cold weather, we have been learning about plants and are growing our own beans. We have been thinking carefully about the equipment we need to plant a bean and what plants need in order to grow. Fingers crossed the weather will not be too frosty over the coming week for our beans to start to grow!

Thank you for reading and for all your continued support.
