This week, Year 4 have been learning about the skills needed for orienteering. This has included learning how to orientate maps and plans, use 4-figure grid references and the eight compass points.

On Tuesday we followed a treasure hunt around school finding orienteering markers by solving cryptic clues and locating 4-figure grid references. This led us to the final 'Treasure Hunt Token' by the bird table in the Quad.

We built on this the following day by finding twenty orienteering markers on the school field to give us a series of words and numbers. We used the numbers to solve mathematical challenges and the words to create an original story. In the afternoon, it was our turn in small groups to set a treasure hunt for another group, applying all the skills we had learnt. Some were fiendishly difficult!
