Remember, remember the 5th of November...
Firework fun!
We have had a fun, firework-themed, first week back in Year One, learning lots about Bonfire Night and why we celebrate it.
In Literacy, we have been thinking of adjectives and descriptive sentences to describe what fireworks look and sound like, and turned these into our very own firework poems! We wrote one as a class first of all, and Miss Merrick and Miss Sloan were so impressed with our ideas. Here is a poem written by all of 1M...
Bang, pow, BOOM!
Whizz and whoosh!
The fireworks go BANG like a drum.
They drop through the sky like drops of rain.
They flutter like butterflies flying through the sky.
They fall like fireflies.
We also thought about firework safety and created instructions on how to keep safe near fireworks. In Create, we made firework pictures using pastels and paint. We used straws to blow the paint to look like a firework exploding in the sky. It was great fun!
In Science, we have started our new topic of Everday Materials. We looked at a variety of different materials including wood, plastic, fabric and clay, and described how they felt. We thought of some great words such as smooth, rough, hard and soft.
We hope you have a lovely weekend and enjoy the fireworks if you are going to see them. Don't forget our firework safety rules!
