The Great Year 1 bake off and the Great Fire of London...

Food Technology and Forest School!

Year 1 have had a great start to the Spring term, starting with our exciting new additions to the timetable - Food Technology and Forest School. Whilst half of us have been getting muddy outside during Forest School, the other half of us have been making and baking lots of goodies to tie in with our Afternoon Tea theme. We started by making sandwiches  that included ingredients from all of the food groups. We then moved on to scones which we enjoyed afterwards with some jam and butter. Last week we made cupcakes ready to decorate this week. Miss Merrick, Miss Sloan and Mrs Taylor have all been so impressed with how sensible we have all been and how brilliant we are at baking! We have also been applying what we have learnt in Numeracy about measuring to weigh out our ingredients. Hopefully we will be able to show you some of our new skills at home! Make sure to have a read of Mr Clement's Forest School blog to see what the Forest Schoolers have been up to!

As well as all of that, we been getting stuck in to our new topic of London and the Royal family. At the moment we are enjoying learning all about the Great Fire of London. This week we have been writing diary entries pretending that we are Samuel Pepys at the time of the Great Fire, thinking about what he would have seen or heard. We also enjoyed sharing our homework last week, describing events in our lives so far, and creating timelines to show the order in which they happened. We loved hearing about and seeing photos of each other's special memories.
