Spring Week 10

Holdenby House trip

Our trip to Holdenby House for our World War Two evacuee evacuation experience day was fantastic! The children behaved impeccably and really enjoyed the experience. Also a massive thank you to our parent volunteers who came to help us – and got involved with their own super costumes!

The children got chance to look at a selection of real gas masks, for adults, children and even babies. We also heard an air raid siren and the saw the clappers for the all clear sound. We did drill practise with a member of the Home Guard who also showed us a real Anderson shelter and a shelter in the cellar! The Anderson shelter was very dark and quite cramped inside! We also met Mrs North who did a lot of work for the soldiers at the front. She taught us all about make do and mend – we got to help her make rag rugs and cut newspaper squares to use a toilet paper! We also spent time in her kitchen helping her prepare for a party. We made jam tarts with grated carrots, pickled some carrots and onions so the lasted longer, painted decorations from salt dough, chopped vegetables to make a pie and ironed paper to re-use it!

Reminder:

Send in coloured PE t-shirts/jumpers for Tuesday’s intra-sports.
