New Blog Post
A wonderful first week back!
We have had a very busy week in Year 2.
In Numeracy we have been learning all about different units of measure. We have had a go at measuring a range of things using stopwatches, trundle wheels, weighing scales, tape measures, rulers and measuring jugs. Mrs Making’s group measured the capacity of some disgusting looking potions and Miss Measey’s group measured the running track using trundle wheels.
In Literacy we have started our new Aesop’s Fable topic and this week we have read ‘The Hare and the Tortoise’. We went outside to the running track and some of us acted out the story. The rest of us imagined that we were the woodland creatures. We had to consider what our viewpoint would be if we were to witness the exchange between the hare and the tortoise. We wrote some excellent thought bubbles to show our viewpoints.
In Science we have been learning all about plants and what they need to grow. We have each planted a broad bean and placed our bean in either: the fridge, a dark cupboard, outside or on the windowsill (with or without water). We have started to complete a bean diary and this will be updated weekly as our plants begin to grow.
Half of Year 2 had an exciting afternoon out at Forest School (please see the separate blog for more information on the activities completed). The other half of the year had a Food Technology lesson. In groups we designed and made some delicious fruit smoothies, we then tasted and evaluated each others. They were very fruity!
We hope you have a lovely weekend and look forward to updating you next week.
