We have had a great first few weeks in Year 5. We launched our Space topic (literally!) by making paper rockets and having a competition to see whose rocket could travel the furthest. We also measured out each planet's relative distance from the sun using sheets of toilet paper. It was great fun and very interesting!

In English, we have been reading 'Cosmic' by Frank Cottrell Bryce. We are enjoying hearing all about Liam's adventures into space. Next week, we will be writing our own adventure stories inspired by the book. 

In Maths, we have been exploring place value using a range of concrete resources. Today, we discovered just how big 1 million is by comparing it to classroom items. We worked out that we would need to gather 1000 dictionaries (with 1000 pages each) to make 1 million pages!
