For remembrance Year 5 created blackout poems. We looked at passages from the poem Flanders Field and Harry Potter. The children identified key-words and phrases from these passages that invoked strong emotions and linked to war. Once they had done this, they covered the rest of the words in an artistic design that linked to remembrance. We re-read these scripts and from there saw that we created a poem.  Some children then took these poems and read them in front of KS2 at our remembrance service.
