Numicon games across the key stages

Year 5 enjoy being teachers.

Year 5's week

We went to visit Year 1 to teach them a fun game about counting and number bonds to 10. We enjoyed the experience of being a teacher and helping out. The Year 1's found the activity exiting and liked learning from it.

In Discover (history) Year 5 have been learning all about Japan and its culture, ancient and modern. It was very interesting because their country is different to ours. Here are a few things we have learnt about:

Ancient Japanese samarais and the origin of them - They were warriors who fought, but fought to bring peace;

Manga cartoons - They are stylised Japanese animations eg Pokemon, recognisable for their large eyes and big wavy or spiky hair. We designed some characters of our own.

 Origami -  Origami is the Japanese art of folding paper to make 3D models. So far we have seen and tried making: swans, boxes, balloons you can blow up, dogs, boats and windmills. We found out that the instructions need to be very precise!;

Haikus - Haikus are poems that originated in Japan. The poem has a certain structure.It goes 5,7,5 syllables. We had a go at writing and performing some of our own.

For our homework, we found out about an aspect of  Japanese culture. So far, we have had dances, songs, origami and Karate (a talk about it and some moves were demonstrated).

Year 5 have enjoyed the week of learning and fun.

Thank you to Ellie and Oscar for writing our blog.
