Safeguarding at Paddox

At Paddox we take safeguarding of the pupils very seriously, but what does that actually mean and what can you expect?

Firstly and most importantly we aim to keep all the children and staff safe, including on school trips and activities.

Sometimes, circumstances come together that cause concerns and have to be addressed. As a school we have a statutory duty to raise concerns with appropriate agencies, if we feel that a child could be at risk.

Sometimes we will share our concerns with parents first, but sometimes that is not possible and we understand that parents can find that decision difficult.

In school we have 4 designated safeguarding officers; Mrs Le Poidevin is the Designated Safeguarding Lead with Miss Branson, Mrs Clarke and Mrs Bartlett as deputy designated officers. This is to ensure that there is always a member of staff on site if there is a safeguarding issue.

Safeguarding covers so much more than just child protection, we have a duty to prevent our children from extremism and radicalisation, we need to be vigilant against child sexual exploitation, children who go missing from education settings, cyber bullying and many other areas of safeguarding.

The Designated Safeguarding Lead and deputies have updated training every two years with all staff trained annually. Alongside this both the Head, the School Business Manager and the Chair of Governors have undertaken training in Safer Recruitment, which means we follow a strict process when recruiting staff, as every interview panel must have someone who has done Safer Recruitment training on it, thorough DBS checks are undertaken and all documentation is verified.

One of key points reinforced in safeguarding training is that safeguarding is everyone’s responsibility. You play an instrumental part in keeping children safe here at Paddox. Remain vigilant and if you have any concerns, remember that we are here to listen and will always treat your concerns with sympathy and integrity.
